The Rotunda is the most expressive and spectacular element of the ANWB’s head office. Immediately upon entering the Rotunda, you will be impressed by the abundant light and space inside. No less than 15 metres high, the building has a diameter of 50 metres.
The dome-shaped roof is formed of prefab concrete shell elements. The central dome is supported by a ring beam, which rests upon 12 columns. Surrounding it is a ring of functional rooms topped by cone-shaped shell roofs. Both the dome and the shell roofs are covered with copper foil that has turned green. The fountain in the centre bears a philosophical verse by the Dutch poet Jan Engelman for travellers to contemplate. The floor depicts a compass rose made of San Sebastian natural stone.
Feel very welcome in the Netherlands and especially at our head office for the cocktail reception!
